Introduction
Virtual Disk Library (VDL) NetVault(TM) VDL presents the backup administrator with an abundance of new methods to augment and fine tune current backup strategies. NetVault(TM) creates a virtual tape library – stocked with drives, slots, and media – on disks. Not only does this simplify backing up from disk, the administrator can also take advantage of the random access nature of disk-based devices to improve the performance of existing backup and restore jobs. NetVault(TM) Disk-to-Disk allows the administrator to freely design any number of customized virtual libraries – each with its own specific number of tape drives, tape slots, and tape sizes to precisely fit the situation at hand. NetVault(TM) Disk-to-Disk sorts multiple data streams from multiple clients from the LAN, concurrently into single, complete data streams on disk. In turn, these data streams can be easily and smoothly migrated or duplicated to real tape for offsite storage, ensuring a fast restore from either tape or disk.Increased Automation
