Cassatt Collage allows business lead rules to manage though a single pane of glass, both physical and virtual server. Virtual servers can be VMware or J2EE based. The rules define the business requirements – we need n many of servers running this application, except on the last Friday of the month when we need n x 2. To save power on the weekend we only need these applications running on this number of servers, so power the others down. Cassatt will build and re-provision servers and virtual machines to meet those business defined rules. If it detects the failure of physical servers it automatically replaces them from a pool of hardware resources. If a physical server crashes, Collage will, in parallel:- Quarantine the failed physical server
- Identify a new physical server from a free pool of shared servers or from a lower priority application
- Provision hardware with a new virtual server container image, which can be accomplished on bare metal in as little as 5 minutes
