Introduction

XVM extends the automated server management features of Cassatt's Collage product to support Virtual Servers hosted on VMware ESX or GSX, Xen and MicroSoft Virtual Server platforms.

A Vendor-Neutral Solution that Automates Management of Virtual and Physical Servers, Enabling Server Consolidation.

While virtualisation technology can increase flexibility and reduce over-provisioning of hardware, it adds complexity and risk. In fact, VM sprawl can outweigh the benefits of virtualisation in the first place. Cassatt introduced Cassatt Collage Cross Virtualisation Manager (or XVM) to address that issue. It helps your IT organisation consolidate servers by providing automated management of virtual machines- providing a unified virtualisation control solution.

XVM Overview

Your virtual server infrastructure can be managed by XVM removing the need for human intervention and cost.

Should a virtual server crash, XVM can reboot the virtual server. If this still does not resolve the issue it can "quarantine" the VM and rebuild your application server on a new VM or on a new physical server.

Should a host server (VMware ESX for example) fail, XVM can build a new physical server from "bare metal" installing ESX onto the box and then rebuilding/restarting the virtual servers that resided on the failed server.

All this is done automatically, following business defined rules.

Rebuild ESX automatically.

The following animation shows a hardware failure on an XVM managed ESX server. It highlights how XVM can serve as part of your disaster recovery procedures, by rebuilding failed servers without human intervention.

This image shows Cassatt COllage automatically harvesting physical nodes to meet the requirements of the service levels set after a hardware failure.
