Introduction
An Operating System virtualisation solution that creates isolated partitions - virtual environments, on a single physical server and OS instance to utilise hardware, software, data centre and management effort with maximum efficiency. The architecture enables the efficient use of hardware, software and management resources. Virtuozzo adds very little to native applications and operating system performance, ranging from 1-3%. Virtualisation is done at the Operating System level, rather than at hardware level. This means that a single operating system license is required, which is particularly useful with Microsoft licensing. You are able to host multiple independent Virtual Private Servers (VPS), running the host operating system. With a Linux host server, each VPS can run different distributions (they must however run the same kernel version). Both the VPSs and the applications installed on them can be kept as templates. This reduces implementation time greatly; a VPS Microsoft Windows server can be created with SQL & IIS installed simply and in minutes. This reduces the time required to build servers as well as the possibility for installation and configuration errors during software installations.Virtuozzo for Windows & Linux Server Virtualisation
Virtuozzo creates isolated, secure virtual environments on a single physical server enabling better server utilization, ensuring guaranteed resources and preventing applications from conflicting. Each VE performs and executes exactly like a stand-alone server; VEs can be rebooted independently and have users, IP addresses, processes, system libraries and configuration files.
As an Operating System virtualization solution, the unique architecture enables the most efficient use of hardware, software and management resources. The light overhead and efficient design of Virtuozzo makes it the right virtualization choice for server consolidation, disaster recovery and all production servers with live applications and data.
Server Migration
Powerful Physical to Virtual (P2V) migration tools makes Virtuozzo a natural when multiple migrations are required, even if virtualisation is not required. For example, Citrix farms often comprise racks full of 1µ servers and migrating those to new platforms can be a daunting task. Virtuozzo reduces it a few minute job. Simple as that.Management Tools
Managing servers with Virtuozzo is simplified, SWSoft provide five tools to enable system management. These tools provide an easy way to create, manage and monitor virtual servers.
Backing up of servers is handled within the GUI management tools, only those aspects of the VPS not part of the template is was built from are backed up, saving both time and space, whilst preserving your ability to quickly restore.
Physical to Virtual (P2V) migration tools can be used to bring existing servers into the virtual infrastructure. VPS resources can be managed both manually and programmatically. This allows you to balance server load, for example giving an application server more resources over night during batch processing and then reducing the resources it requires during the day.
Awards & Testimonials
Virtuozzo for Linux 3.0 earned the “Analyst's Choice” rating by eWEEK Labs in a cover story in the April 3, 2006 issue of the magazine.
Virtuozzo is being used to host servers in both corporate environments and the Web hosting server market, where SWSoft has a large customer base.
